Annual Meeting John A. Burns School of Medicine Health Sciences Library March 12, 2010
The Annual Meeting of the Hawaii-Pacific Chapter of the Medical Library Association (HPCMLA) was held at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Health Sciences Library.
Members of the Chapter were fortunate to have Kay Deeney, Education Coordinator, National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Southwest Region (NN/LM PSRML), Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, Center for the Health Sciences, UCLA, give an Advanced PubMed class: “PubMed Clinics of North America: a problem-based approach to PubMed searching”.
The class focused on a problem-based approach in learning to search the redesigned PubMed database. Through case studies, group exercises and hands-on practice, participants became more efficient PubMed searchers. The class was geared for intermediate and advanced PubMed searchers. We earned 3.5 continuing education credits for the class was 3.5 hours long, and at MLA ’10, which will be in Washington D.C. May 21-26, it will be a 4-hour class, you will earn 4 CE credits, and will cost $315!
The hands-on practice in JABSOM’s computer lab was very helpful, especially with Kay giving the class and being there to give us pointers in searching.
Julie Kwan, the Acting Associate Director of the NN/LM PSRML, and the Library Network Coordinator, gave the Regional Medial Library Update. Very interesting talk, and she again emphasized the importance of libraries doing Disaster Planning.
